Your vote needed
01 September 2010

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to you on behalf of the Officers of the English Gymnastics Association (EGA) regarding the following imminent issue that concerns the English Regions' representation on the BAGA Board.

As you will be aware, the English Gymnastics Association has, since its formal affiliation to British Gymnastics in 2005, been entitled to send three of its Committee Members to sit on the BAGA Main Board. Currently these members are Sue James, Kevin Flynn and Jim Moss.

The EGA have three directors instead of only one, which is the case for each of the other three Home Countries. This difference in the number of directors was agreed with BAGA in 2005 and is embodied in the BAGA Memoranda and Articles in order to recognise:

  • The size of England and its membership, i.e. 97% of all BAGA members.
  • That the EGA at that time, being a completely new Home Country Association, was not in a funding or organisational position to be completely sure of its future role when affiliation took place to BAGA. However, it should be remembered that this was a drastic reduction from the previous number of representatives from each of the English Regions that had sat on the BAGA Board.
  • That this situation would continue until the EGA were more confident about the future of the English Association.

The BAGA Board have now approved, by a majority vote, that the EGA directors should be reduced from three to just one. This decision will be put to a vote at the BAGA AGM at the meeting scheduled to take place at 2.30pm on SATURDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER 2010, at the Rhythm & Blues Rooms, The Crowne Plaza Hotel, Birmingham NEC, Pendigo Way, Birmingham B40 1PS. As full BAGA members you may vote on this proposal either by attending the AGM or by exercising your vote by proxy.

The Officers of the EGA find this proposal unacceptable, reducing as it would the representation of the Home Country Association on the Board of the sport's Governing Body and thereby lessening the ability of the EGA to support its affiliated members - the English Regions.

It would therefore be greatly appreciated if you could possibly make all full BAGA members within your Region aware of this matter as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Mike
