2009 Awards

140 people, nominees and guests attended the fourth Eastern Counties Annual Awards evening held at the Holiday Inn, Ipswich  
Members enjoyed a three course meal followed by presentation to the winners in each of the twelve categories.  Cheques to assist the gymnasts and clubs were given by the region to acknowledge the achievement made in 2009.  Chair, vouchers were given to the personal awards.
Mr Ross Grant British Gymnastics National Events, acted as host for the evening and as he announced the nominees in each category the audience cheered to show support their members.
Presentation to the winners was made by Mrs Avril Spriggs, Deputy President of British Gymnastics and our own Regional Welfare Officer

MR JOHN PAWSEY

SERVICE TO MEN'S ARTISTIC

John has been involved in the sport as a volunteer for 42 years

Although now retired from a lifetime in education John continues to be the driving force behind the regional men's discipline.

He is a coach of many disciplines, judge, tutor assessor and external verifier as well as presiding on many committees including Chair of Waveney Gymnastics Club.

His retirement from education has only increased his activity within the region and to the sport in general.  He is proud of his achievement of coaching the veterans of Waveney.  John spends much of his time now in raising the profile, awareness and professional standards in gymnastics.   

Mrs Avril Spriggs, Deputy President of British Gymnastics presented John with a Waterford Crystal picture frame which had a picture of John and his veterans team.

JACQUI MATTHEWS

Marriotts Gymanstics Club
Jacqui has been coaching for over 25 years on a voluntary basis and although Jacqui continues to  work full time she still finds the time to act as Welfare Officer for the club. 
Jacqui is always to be found assisting county squad training sessions and attends county and regional compettions.

SHIRLEY CAPPAERT

South Essex Gymnastics Club

Shirley manages the office at South Essex with energy and enthusiasm.  She is a trusted member of the club giving up her free time to fund raise and assist anyone that needs help.
The club is lucky to have someone of her calibre and commitment.

PIPERS VALE GYMNASTICS CLUB

This club is the venue for many regional, national and international competitions for all disciplines.  The team at the club provides a wide spectrum of services for the community which includes

'Youth nite'  to improve the opportunities for youths in the area, provides a special needs programme with over 40 children with learning and physical difficulties attending each week.  

In conjunction with a local school has a large work experience scheme

Still manages to produce regional, national and international gymnasts.

SOUTH ESSEX MEN'S SENIOR TEAM

Danny Lawrence, Dave Mott, Reiss Beckford, Max Whitlock, Anthony Hughes, Matthew Batterham
  
The team were placed 2nd in the British Team Championships with some of the youngest boys that had been part of the senior team before.
The team performed well and delivered great rountines to reach the silver medal position.

MRS JEAN MORGAN

REGIONAL JUDGING CONVENOR

In early 2009 Jean retained her qualification as a Brevet judge.  Jean continues to ensure the standard of judging at regional competitions is constant and has this year the task of tracking and helping over 100 newly qualified club and regional judges.

She is an invaluable source of knowledge and has provided assistance to the WTC committee which this year has seen many new members.

For his performance at the Europeans and at the World Cahmpionships in October 2009.

Daniel was unable to attend the evening due to training commitments but has acknowledged the award and would like to thank all those who nominated him.

ELLIOTT BROWNE

Salto Gymnastics Club

  

Elliott competed at the NDP Level 3 in 2008 and has worked very hard to achieve Elite Standard this year.  His tumbling skills are outstanding for his young age (12years) and I am sure he will be noticed by the National coach as a future British team member.

MARISSA KING, HUNTINGDON GYMNASTICS CLUB

Marissa was selected to represent Great Britain in the World Championship.  She is hard working, strives for perfection and is there to support her team and club.  This gymnast recently accepted a scholarship at Florida University but will continue to return home to represent Great Britain.

MOLLY TAYLOR

Pipers Vale Gymnastics Club

Molly wins this award for her remarkable achievement of winning the Level 2 overall National Championship.  For collecting a gold medal as individual winner at the Alfa Factor and a team gold medal at the Alfa Factor.

DANIEL KEATING

HUNTINGDON GYMNASTICS CLUB  

As a gymnast he has performed steadily over the last few years but in 2009 his hard work was rewarded with the overall gold medal at the European Championship and in front of a world stage collected the silver medal at the World Championships.

GIARNNI REGINI-MORAN

Waveney Gymnastics Club

Giarnni reached second position at the Elite Grades National final.  He helped the regional U12's Pegasus Team to win the team trophy.  Giarnni took overall bronze and three individual medals at the British Championships.  He has been selected to represent Great Britain.

Paul, Head Coach of the club for his continued  success for both male and female gymnasts at National and International level. 
Paul is also the driving force behind improving and promoting the standard of coaches and judges in men's artistic.
